What's the difference between gold-plated and gold-filled? Gold filled means the jewelry is covered with a sheet of gold. Gold plated means the jewelry has a thin layer of gold (<0.5 microns). There is a significant amount more gold used in the gold-filled process which is reflected in the cost of the piece.
